Crayons (the easiest project)

Markers are a bigger hit that crayons in our house. But I love the idea of making shaped crayons. Ideally this is a good way to recycle or to put old broken bits of crayons into recirculation. For us this was a good opportunity to do something with all the crayons we have been accumulating.  This is not a new idea but it's so easy and fun.

So when Valentine's Day rolled around I deceided that peeling, sorting and melting crayons would be an inexpensive, simple, project for Lucy and I.  And something she would excitedly give to her friends to take home after our Valentine's Party. Below illustrates what we did.
Step 1: peel
Step 2: organize in an oven safe pan
Step 3: place in 200 degree c oven
Step 4: wait about 20 minutes until completely melted
Step 5: after cooling completely place the solid crayons still in the pan in the freezer for easy removal.
Of course you can use any shaped tins, even the little round muffin tins, just make sure the crayons are thick enough so they don't brake too easily.  If it is is too thin when it comes out of the oven you can just add more crayons and re-melt. EASY!
